I was asked by the Harbor Commissioner to turn their old, outdated harbor website into a flourishing, mobile-friendly center of information for fisherman and tourists alike. Since no one knew how to create content, I converted the Harbor’s vast database of flyers, pamphlets, and informational material into a presentable format.
Once that was done, I worked one-on-one with staff on how to update information, post news, and replace images in the front-page slider.
This was the first time I have ever tried developing a minimalist, large-image look for the home page. Sometimes it’s important to forego fancy effects and instead present information in a simple format that is easy to understand… and easier for staff to edit. This is especially important when working with businesses and organizations that don’t have much website management experience.
I really enjoyed playing a small part in Crescent City Harbor’s rebuilding project. The harbor was badly damaged during a 2011 tsunami and when I was called in it was just beginning to flourish again. Now the harbor is a better place for everyone.
